Bermuda Blades offers portable soft bristle axe throwing hire for school reward days, summer fairs, enrichment events and activity afternoons. Based in Henlow, Bedfordshire, we welcome enquiries from schools across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Our soft bristle activity uses plastic throwing axes and bristle target boards. It is aimed at ages 8+, making it an option to explore for junior pupils, secondary schools and age-appropriate youth groups. Choose one or two boards for a two-, four- or six-hour hire.
Why choose soft bristle axe throwing for a school event?
A target challenge gives children a clear goal: take their turn, aim carefully and see whether they can improve their score. Pupils can enjoy it individually or as part of a friendly house or team competition. The focus can be on personal improvement, so the activity does not need to revolve around finding one overall winner.
It also gives organisers a flexible activity station. A school fair might use short turns, while an enrichment afternoon could give smaller groups time to practise and compare scores. Tell us the pupils’ ages and approximate numbers so we can discuss a realistic rotation plan. Hiring two boards can give you more flexibility, but it does not mean an unlimited number of children can take part at once.

Soft bristle school hire prices
Prices are per hire for the full duration shown, rather than per pupil:
Two hours: £50 for one board or £75 for two boards.
Four hours: £80 for one board or £120 for two boards.
Six hours: £100 for one board or £150 for two boards.
Soft bristle delivery and collection costs £30 extra. Collection from our Henlow site is free. For example, two boards for four hours with delivery and collection comes to £150, before any optional extras. Send your school postcode when enquiring so we can arrange the delivery details.
DBS checks, qualified instructors and insurance
Bermuda Blades is insured, and our team includes DBS-checked, qualified axe throwing instructors. We understand that schools need to consider who is attending, how an activity will be supervised and what information their office or safeguarding lead requires.
When you enquire, tell us about your school’s visitor procedures and any documentation you need to review. Ask us about the relevant DBS, qualification and insurance details for the people and service involved in your booking. These checks support your planning; they do not replace your school’s own safeguarding procedures or event assessment.
Please agree staffing and supervision arrangements with us before booking. Do not assume an instructor is included with equipment hire. Adult supervision, a clear activity area and an orderly system for taking turns should be planned before pupils begin.
Planning the space and the school day
Share photos or a description of the proposed area, including the surface, access route and nearby activities. We can discuss whether it is suitable and what arrangements are needed. Keep the throwing activity away from busy walkways and plan where waiting pupils will stand. Let us know about any access or support needs so we can discuss participation before the day.
If you are planning an outdoor event, agree a weather plan in advance. Our covered lanes at the Henlow venue are separate from portable hire, so cover should not be assumed at your school.
Add another activity for £50
Giant Connect 4 is available for £50 per hire, and soft slingshot archery can be added for £50 per hire. Ask about suitability and supervision for your pupils when putting together an activity rotation.
