First-Time Axe Throwing in Henlow: What to Expect, Ages and Prices

Never thrown an axe before? You do not need to arrive knowing the technique. At Bermuda Blades in Henlow, real axe throwing starts with a safety briefing and a demonstration, followed by practice with an instructor.

This guide is for first-time visitors deciding which session to book, what to bring and whether the activity suits their group.

What happens when you arrive?

Bermuda Blades is on the Perfect Aquatics site in Henlow, Bedfordshire, beside Bermuda Falls Adventure Golf. Use the free customer car park and follow the venue signs. Allow time to park, find the lanes and complete the required registration before your session.

Your instructor explains the rules and demonstrates safe throwing. Listen to the briefing before handling equipment or stepping towards the targets. You then practise, build confidence and work through the session’s scoring games.

Do you need strength or experience?

Technique and consistency matter more than trying to throw as hard as possible. The instructor helps you adjust your position and release, and the available equipment gives you different styles to try. Missing the target at first is normal.

Sessions suit beginners who want to try something new with friends, a partner or family. Tell us about any access needs or concerns before booking so we can discuss whether the activity is appropriate.

30-minute or 60-minute real axe throwing?

The 30-minute session is a short introduction. The 60-minute full experience gives you more time to practise, explore the equipment and enjoy the competitive part of the visit. Prices depend on the number of guests:

  • Two guests: £30 for 30 minutes or £50 for 60 minutes.

  • Three guests: £42 or £65.

  • Four guests: £50 or £78.

  • Five guests: £55 or £90.

  • Six guests: £59 or £99.

These are group prices. Check current availability and checkout totals for the session you choose. Corporate groups and birthday parties have separate packages.

What ages can take part?

Real axe throwing is for ages 12+. Younger participants must meet the venue’s consent and responsible adult supervision requirements. Share the ages of everyone attending if you are unsure which booking to make.

For younger children aged 8+, soft-bristle axe throwing uses plastic axes and dedicated bristle targets. Standard self-supervised one-lane sessions for up to six guests cost £20 for 30 minutes or £30 for 60 minutes. This is a separate family activity from the real axe session.

What should you wear?

Choose comfortable clothing that lets you move your arms, suitable closed-toe footwear and layers for the temperature. Both lanes are covered, but the venue is outdoors. Avoid loose clothing or accessories that could interfere with throwing, and follow the instructor’s guidance.

Can you add a challenge target?

Custom paper targets give the group a different scoring game to try. The booking page advertises a £15 upgrade to two lanes and a challenge target, in addition to the session price. Ask about the design and option available for your booking; custom targets use selected weapons rather than every weapon on site.
